The Michigan Department of State Police have begun the process of removing individuals from the state’s sex offender registry following a Michigan Supreme Court ruling that said the Legislature’s 2021 amendments to the Sex Offender Registration Act could not retroactively extend registration requirements to anyone who committed relevant crimes prior to July 1, 2011.

A Michigan-based group of organizations working to end immigration detention has sent a letter to U.S. Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-Holly) calling on her to help end the practice of Michigan county correctional facilities and jails being used as detention centers for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
