After nearly seven hours of discussion, the Michigan Board of State Canvassers deadlocked 2-2 on a ballot measure that would enact strict voter ID laws, meaning the proposal was not certified for the November ballot. However, the measure is likely to go to the Michigan Supreme Court for a final decision.

In response to comments made by online influencer Hasan Piker, a controversial left-wing streamer, in which he tied his criticisms of support for Israel by the American Jewish community to state Sen. Jeremy Moss of Bloomfield Township, Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed said that “nobody speaks for this campaign besides me and my campaign spokespeople.”

Latino and Hispanic Michiganders were motivated to vote in the 2026 primary election in part to support the community’s candidates and issues they care about, which advocates say led to a more than 10% increase in Latino turnout compared to the midterm election in 2022.
