MT. PLEASANT – Republicans gathered for their nominating convention on Saturday with a focus on changing Michigan after eight years of Democratic leadership in Lansing and 25 years of Democratic representation for Michigan in the U.S. Senate, as delegates voted in the party’s slate of statewide candidates for lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state, state supreme court, state board of education and the boards for three state universities.

Michigan Senate Democrats are expressing their enthusiasm at the possibility of the next Senate president being someone who already has experience leading the chamber following Democratic gubernatorial nominee and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson’s announcement of Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks (D-Grand Rapids) as her running mate.

America’s immigration system is dysfunctional and, in the words of one federal judge, second only to the tax code in its complexity. For decades, presidential administrations and members of bipartisan congresses have failed to reform our outdated immigration system, despite clear, workable reforms.
